Variable Stars in the Unusual , Metal - Rich Globular Cluster NGC 6441
We have undertaken a search for variable stars in the metal-rich globular cluster NGC 6441 using time-series BV photometry. The total number of variables found near NGC 6441 has been increased to ∼ 104, with 48 new variables being found in this survey. A significant number of the variables are RR Lyrae stars (∼ 46), most of which are probable cluster members. As was noted by Layden et al. (1999...
متن کاملStellar Abundances in Giant Stars in the Metal - Rich Globular Cluster NGC 6528
We present the first results of a detailed abundance analysis, based on VLT observations, of giant stars in the very metal-rich globular cluster NGC 6528. We will, we hope, be able to tie the horizontal branch abundances (see e.g. Carretta et al. 2001) to those of the more luminous giants (see CMDs). For the very similar cluster NGC 6553 studies of different types of stars have yielded very dis...
متن کاملBlue horizontal branch stars in metal - rich globular clusters . I . NGC 6388 and NGC 6441 ⋆
We report the first results of an ongoing spectroscopic survey of blue horizontal branch stars in the metal-rich ([Fe/H] ≃ −0.5) globular clusters NGC 6388 and NGC 6441. Based on data obtained with the ESO– New Technology Telescope (NTT), we provide gravities and temperatures for four stars in NGC 6388 and three stars in NGC 6441. These results are marginally inconsistent with the predictions o...
متن کاملRR Lyrae Stars in NGC 6388 and NGC 6441: A New Oosterhoff Group?
NGC 6388 and NGC 6441 are anomalies among Galactic globular clusters in that they cannot be readily placed into either Oosterhoff group I or Oosterhoff group II despite their significant numbers of RR Lyrae variables. The mean pulsation periods, &angl0;Pab&angr0;, of their RRab variables, at 0.71 and 0.76 days, respectively, are even larger than for Oosterhoff II clusters. Moreover, Oosterhoff ...
متن کاملAbundances in Metal-rich Stars ?
We have derived elemental abundances of O, Ni as well as for a number of s-elements for 47 G and K dwarf, with Me/H]> 0:1 dex. The selection of stars was based on their kinematics as well as on their uvby ?-photometry. One sample of stars on rather eccentric orbits traces the chemical evolution interior to the solar orbit and another, on circular orbits, the evolution around the solar orbit. A ...
